Derma Shield. The Ultimate Skin Protectant.
Peter Friswell - Managing Director, Derma Shield
Can you tell us how you came to be involved with Derma Shield?
I came across Derma Shield during its development stage and quickly became heavily involved. That was late 1990 and I’ve been in the same business of helping people with skin challenges ever since.
What are the top 3 issues with DIY, Derma Shield can help with?
When most of us are involved in DIY the first skin problem we notice is that we get whatever we are working with onto our skin and then end up with work stained skin. Derma Shield forms a breathing protective shield on your skin that allows most skin staining products to be removed very quickly allowing you to get your skin as clean as normal.
The second most common issue is when DIY Doers are using products they don’t perceive as dangerous but at the end of a hard day they start to notice their skin feels dry. This could come from using things as simple as cleaning solutions or tile grout. The protective shield that Derma Shield gives wearers doesn’t just stop staining products from doing their worst, it also helps the skin repel mild skin irritants that cause your skin’s natural oils (lipid layer) to be broken down.
The third issue is not always immediately apparent. Every time you allow your skin to come into contact with a product that attacks the lipid layer of your skin you are contributing to a slow but sure drying out process that doctors call Trans Epidermal Water Loss. TEWL is the start of Dermatitis. You can easily recognise the symptoms by just having a close look at your hands; particularly your knuckles and finger tips. Do your knuckles look red and inflamed? Are your fingertips looking very dry and do they ever start to split? Derma Shield contains phenomenally good moisturisers and also ingredients like Aloe Vera and Vitamin E that are there to both moisturise and nurture your skin.
How is dermashield different to other barrier creams/lotions?
The big difference with Derma Shield compared to well known simple moisturising creams is that Derma Shield does three things in one application: It moisturises, nurtures and protects your skin – despite repeated washing AND your skin continues to breathe and perspire. Derma Shield is so good for your skin that it is used by NHS professionals to protect their skin yet it is so gentle it is used by professional actors to protect their skin from stage makeup.
Why do I need to use it?
Your skin is your body’s largest organ and healthy skin is essential for keeping you in good health. You would be surprised how quickly your skin can breakdown and yet it can take weeks and weeks to revert to its normal healthy state.
Does Dermashield have any other uses/benefits other than for DIY?
The number of uses for Derma Shield is staggering – from a florist to a professional gardener, from a professional actor to a woman using Derma Shield as a makeup primer. The common question is, are you someone who either has, or has the potential to have, dry, cracked, damaged, broken or work stained skin? If so then Derma Shield is for you.
